The WorldCat community
WorldCat is the international, online catalog that helps OCLC members share resources, reduce costs and increase visibility and impact in the communities they serve and on the Web. WorldCat is cooperatively built and managed by a dedicated, expert community of librarians, OCLC staff and content providers who collaborate to improve the integrity of, and access to, the “collective collection” of the world’s libraries.
To improve the quality of WorldCat data and services, OCLC members share bibliographic metadata, as well as best practices, research, applications and feedback from library users around the world. Maintaining and improving WorldCat is central to OCLC members’ commitment to each other.
Any institution that contributes holdings or other metadata to WorldCat via a variety of OCLC services is considered a member of the OCLC cooperative. In addition, libraries that are a part of a consortium or group that contributes to WorldCat are considered members of this growing community.
