While You Were Coding

My first several weeks on the Platform Team have been rushing by and I am anxious to give you a preview of what we've been working on here. At a high level, we're still focused on the goal of providing you with useful and easy to use web services so you can develop your own solutions utilizing the shared data assets of the OCLC cooperative. I'm starting to get a sense of how many people are involved and how much behind-the-scenes effort goes into working towards that goal. If the recent release planning meeting (my first!) is anything to go by, we have a lot to talk about.

We are close to publishing additional authorization methods. This is a hugely important and complex area. Karen Coombs has done a lot of analysis on this topic and written a number of specs. She's kindly agreed to write some posts here covering our current access and authentication methods and how we're expanding that capability going forward. Look for her first post on this topic later this week.

A lot of our work centers around data protocols. This is obviously part of implementing authentication, but it's also important in areas ranging from REST orientation to URL's. Steve Meyer, our Technical Platform Product Manager, has agreed to write some posts that delve into how we think about and work with data protocols in relation to the Platform.

You'll be hearing more from me, too, as I focus on your experience with the Developer Network site, using our web services, and interacting with us throughout your projects. Caution: I will be asking for your input here!

We'd love to hear about what you've been working on, too. Are there topics you want to hear more about? Shoot us an email and let us know.
