Description

The International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) is a research library and image repository–led effort to collaboratively produce an interoperable technology and community framework for image delivery on the web for image-based resources hosted around the world. It has become the premier standard for providing access to open access digital material and aims to define a set of common application programming interfaces that support interoperability between image repositories, and to develop shared technologies that provide a world-class user experience in viewing, comparing, manipulating, and annotating images.

Throughout 2017 and 2018, OCLC Research staff completed working prototypes of IIIF API endpoints using CONTENTdm record data and then collaborated with OCLC product staff to add this support to the production service. OCLC is a member of the IIIF Consortium and OCLC Research is continuing with a prototype-to-production model, both to build more API support for IIIF in CONTENTdm and to advance the IIIF API specifications by creating functional prototypes at scale.

In this webinar, members of the OCLC Research and Product teams will discuss the history and strategy behind bringing IIIF support to CONTENTdm, the relationship between OCLC Research and the Product team in building a production service, and the upcoming work to implement the IIIF Discovery API specification at scale and to advance the standard. The webinar will conclude with a discussion where we hope to hear from the community about their own work in this space, as well as feedback on the work and strategy presented.

This webinar will be of interest to those working in the digital library space, tracking developments with the IIIF standard, those with responsibilities for or interest in technologies for presenting digital images on the web, and anyone interested in the way that OCLC Research work informs product strategy and development.

Works in Progress: An OCLC Research Occasional Webinar Series

These webinars are exclusively for OCLC Research Library Partners, but the recordings are publicly available to all.

Works in Progress: An OCLC Research Occasional Webinar Series to talk about work happening in OCLC Research – we'd like to present our work informally and get feedback from you, our Partners. We'd also like this to be a venue for Partner institutions. What are you working on that everyone should know about? What input would help you move forward? Let us know!
