Description

Archival accessioning is a foundational part of a collection management program, but perhaps the most un-examined part of archival practice. The recent OCLC Research position paper Research and Learning Agenda for Archives, Special, and Distinctive Collections recognizes this, and states “in light of the lack of baseline physical, intellectual, and administrative control in our backlogs, a clear reconceptualization of goals for and approach to accessioning is in order.” In this webinar, Accessioning Archivists Rachel Searcy from NYU Libraries and Rosemary Davis from the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library will draw on their experience to articulate the role and goals of accessioning work and discuss building accessioning programs at their intuitions.

This webinar will be of interest to anyone interested in archival accessioning, building extensible processing programs, or gaining comprehensive baseline control of their collections, including archivists with accessioning responsibilities, managers who oversee processing and accessioning work, and administrators with responsibility for archives and special collections programs.

Works in Progress: An OCLC Research Occasional Webinar Series to talk about work happening in OCLC Research – we'd like to present our work informally and get feedback from you, our Partners. We'd also like this to be a venue for Partner institutions. What are you working on that everyone should know about? What input would help you move forward? Let us know!
