Dewey Update Breakfast and
ALCTS Public Libraries Technical Services Interest Group

Come learn what’s new on the Dewey scene with Julianne Beall and Alex Kyrios, Dewey editorial team members, and Caroline Saccucci, head of the CIP and Dewey Program at the Library of Congress. Juli will explore important features of WebDewey (the number-building assistant and an upcoming user notification feature), while Alex will review significant schedule changes coming out of the annual DDC Editorial Policy Committee in early June. Caroline will talk about an expansion of LC’s AutoDewey program for sports biographies.

Please note: This meeting will break at 7:45 am to allow guests to attend the memorial event for the Pulse shooting victims that will be held in the Orange County Convention Center's Chapin Theater W320 from 8:00–8:30 am. The ALCTS Public Libraries Technical Services Interest Group meeting will begin at 8:40 am in the original meeting location: Orange Ballroom C at the Hilton Orlando.

Shared Print: Registration Learnings and a Look Ahead to Discovery

Increasingly, libraries are sharing the responsibility and costs of maintaining print collections in response to widespread availability of digital resources and increasing pressure to reclaim campus library space. Nick Valentini, Product Manager for Shared Print, will give an update on how OCLC is facilitating data-driven selection for cooperative partnerships, streamlining registration of preservation commitments in WorldCat, and enabling seamless integration of shared collections in local discovery and delivery applications.

Data-driven Website Design: Using Analytics to Maximize Search Box Use on Your Website

A library’s virtual front door, a website connects people to library services and resources. Analytics inform website design and positioning of search options so people more easily find what they need. Data tells us which website features are used most and where changes are required. This program provides insights into how to capture and use website analytics to maximize users’ experiences, including best practices that have improved usage of some library websites.

Participate in this interactive session as Maurine McCourry from Hillsdale College shares why and how her library migrated to WorldShare Collection Manager and the WorldCat knowledge base. OCLC Director David Whitehair will then share an update on current and planned enhancements to OCLC Cataloging & Metadata Services, followed by an overview of linked data activities from OCLC Senior Product Manager John Chapman. All attendees are invited to a reception at the conclusion of this meeting.
