Configure ILLiad to meet your library's needs

ILLiad provides a robust patron management and request interface. It supports the use of customized workflows developed specifically for individual libraries. ILLiad also allows unlimited templates for patron e-mail notifications, book straps, labels and letters, all of which can be customized.

The software also integrates with local and external systems, such as library OPACs and other discovery tools and link resolvers, through its customizable add-ons. ILLiad can receive requests from WorldCat® Discovery and other OpenURL-supported reference services. Accurate citations from library databases are associated with your patron's ILLiad account and submitted to your ILL workflow, eliminating the need to re-enter data or decipher handwritten requests. Document requests can be transferred from the Borrowing queue to the Document Delivery queue with a single click. Borrowing from other libraries is fully integrated with the Policies Directory and your unique custom holdings queues.

Let patrons manage their ILL experiences

After completing an initial profile, users only need to key in their ID and password. If authentication is required, ILLiad supports a wide variety of authentication options, including EZproxy®, Shibboleth, CAS and LDAP. A user's profile is automatically inserted into each new request, whether entered by the user or generated from a library database. ILLiad allows your staff to add and customize patron request forms that can be viewed by users on iPhone and Android devices. ILLiad also supports mediated interlibrary loan that allows your staff to route requests to specific processing queues for expedited or special service.

Expand ILL choices through DOCLINE and Rapid ILL

In addition to connecting your library with OCLC's global resource-sharing network, ILLiad can send and receive ILL requests with DOCLINE and RapidILL. This provides ILLiad users with a wealth of options in interlibrary loan.

Use the document delivery option that's right for your users

Deliver documents on or off campus through Odyssey or Article Exchange. Odyssey, ILLiad's document-delivery feature, allows staff to send and receive documents from ILLiad, Odyssey and Ariel users. Staff members review documents for accuracy and, with a single click, post them to the patron's ILLiad account. Document delivery through Article Exchange is built into ILLiad workflows, saving time for staff and library users. Lending libraries worldwide can upload requested documents so that users can retrieve articles or book chapters obtained for them via interlibrary loan.

Inform ILL management and collection development decisions with usage statistics

ILLiad generates detailed real-time reports that help you efficiently track your workflow and keep your administrators up to date. Lending reports allow borrowing institutions to view up-to-date tracking information about requests. And your staff members can share URLs for the statistics, saving them the time of creating and distributing paper-based reports to other departments.

Manage mediated and unmediated requests for electronic and physical content

Mediated workflows enable ILL staff to monitor requests and route them to specific processing queues for expedited or special service. For example, requests generated from a specific department or school can be delivered to a specific queue for expedited service.

ILLiad also delivers efficient, unmediated access to online articles and e-books due to its interaction with the WorldCat knowledge base and its integrated access to the lending policies of content owners. The knowledge base determines which libraries own needed items—including volume, issue and availability data—saving staff time and reducing turnaround time for users.

In addition, the copyright-management system in ILLiad allows interlibrary loan staff in the United States to track and monitor all user requests for journal articles.

OCLC ILLiad software was developed by the interlibrary loan staff at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and has been expanded and further enhanced by Atlas Systems, Inc., the primary developer for OCLC ILLiad. Atlas Systems continues to be a vital provider to OCLC for support and development of this product.

ILLiad allows you to replace paper-based workflows, manage a high volume of requests and automate routine functions for borrowing and lending resources between libraries with integration into a variety of third-party systems. ILLiad allows your users to place and monitor their requests without librarian assistance and to get materials quickly.
