Advanced search

The advanced search allows you to construct more complex searches by entering keywords for multiple categories and limiting your results by format (such as "only books"), date of publication/release, subject content, audience, and/or language.

Accessing the advanced search option

You access the advanced search from these screens:

  • The Search All Libraries screen

  • The Search for Library Items screen

  • The Search Results screen

Performing an advanced search

To perform an advanced search:

On one of the location listed above, select the Advanced Search link.

Result: The Advanced Search screen appears.

 
2 Enter one or more search terms in at least one field in the upper half of the screen. Search Guidelines
3 Optional. Select values for one or more Limit results by fields in the lower half of the screen. Limiting an advanced search

Select the Search button.

Result: Your results appear, sorted by location and relevance.

Limiting an advanced search

You can limit your advanced search results by:

Field Returns only:
Library Items owned by selected groups within the overall group
Format

Items in the specified format

Note: If you select the Article format, a Journal/Magazine: field is automatically added to the upper half of the Advanced Search screen. You can enter a publication's title to limit your results to that publication.

Publication Date Items published in a certain date range (whole years only)
Content Items with the content specified
Audience Items for the audience specified
Language Items in the language specified
