Search Results Screen

The Search Results screen presents the items that match your search criteria. To see more information about a specific item, select its linked title to display its Detailed Record screen.

This screen also provides utilities that allow you to:

Introduction

The Search Results screen presents your initial results set sorted by location and relevance.

  • Location
    • If you selected a library group (primary or secondary), results for that group only are displayed.
    • If you selected Libraries Worldwide (WorldCat), results for the primary group appear first, followed by WorldCat (Global) results. Information for secondary groups is not displayed.

  • Relevance. Relevance is the result of a ranking scheme that is based on the following:
    • Whether the search terms appear in the title, author, or subject field of the WorldCat bibliographic record
    • Proximity of the search terms to each other
    • The number of libraries that report owning the item
    • How recently the item was published

Sort order

You can choose among these additional sort options:

  • Relevance only (ignores location and mingles group and WorldCat libraries in the result set)
  • Author (A-Z)
  • Title (A-Z)
  • Date (Oldest First)
  • Date (Newest First)

To change the sort order.

Action

Select the down arrow at the right of the Sort by: list and choose a sort order.

Result: The Search Results screen displays your result set in the selected order.

 

Editions and formats

To access all editions and formats.

Action

Select the View all editions and formats link (where available).

Result: The Showing All Editions screen displays all editions and formats for the selected item.
