Detailed Record: Tabs

Five tabs at the bottom of the screen provide more information:

Libraries

This tab allows you to look up libraries that own the item. You can also designate a favorite library that will appear at the top of the holdings list for all items viewed.

Libraries that own item

You can enter a ZIP code or the name the your state, province, or country where you want to find the item. A list of libraries in that area the own the item is displayed.

Step Action
1 Enter information in the Enter Location Information: field.

Select the Go button.

Result: The tab redisplays, showing libraries that own the item, ordered by distance from the designated area.

Note: Mileages are approximate and based on postal-code geographic centers, so it is possible that the closest library will not be listed first

Optional. Restrict the results to only the edition that you were looking at by selecting the Just this Edition link.

Result: The Detailed Record screen redisplays showing locations for that specific edition.

 

Each library listing includes the library's name and location by city, and an indication of which formats of the item it owns. Many listings will include a link to the library's general information page, with key information such as phone numbers and hours of operation. Some listings may display a link to the library's online Ask a Librarian service. Select a library-name link to visit that library's online catalog for more information about the item.

Designate a favorite library

Selecting a library as a favorite will cause that library to appear at the top of the holdings list for all items viewed. Selecting a favorite library will also add that library to the list of favorite libraries on your My WorldCat page.

To add a favorite library:

Select the Add to favorites link below the library name.

Result: A confirmation message appears:

 

Details

This tab provides:

  • Links to biographical descriptions for personal authors (where available)
  • Additonal item details such as the genre/form, physical description [1 videodisc (ca. 119 min.)], and language notes (optional subtitles in English, French or Spanish; closed-captioned in English for the hearing impaired)
  • Summary/abstract (where available)

To access a biographical description:

Action

Select a linked name.

Result: WorldCat Identities automatically opens at the page for that individual.

 

Reviews

This tab displays summaries of existing reviews, and allows you to view the profile of a review's author. You can also contribute your own online review.

For existing reviews:

Create your own review

Before you begin: You must be logged into your account to create a review. If you are not logged in, the Sign In screen will be displayed when you select the Write an online review link.

To create your own review:

Result: The Your Review screen appears.

 
2 Read the Please note... information about session timeout limits in the column on the right side of the screen.

If you want to:

  • Publish the review now: select the Publish Review button
    Result:Your review summary is displayed with a confirmation message.

  • Save the review for later; select the Save Review as Draft button
    Result: The Your Review screen is redisplayed with a confirmation message.

 

 

Edit or delete a review

You can further edit a review after you have published it, and you can delete your review.

To edit or delete a review:

Access the Detailed Record of the item for which you have written a review.

Search All Libraries

Select the Reviews tab.

Result: All existing review summaries are displayed.

Note: You can also access the Reviews tab by selecting the n with a review link just below the title.

Select the title of your review.

Result: Your full review is displayed, with Edit this Review and Delete this Review links at the very top.

If you want to:

  • Edit the review:
    1. Select Edit this Review.
    2. Make your changes.
    3. Select the Publish Review button.

    Result: Your review summary is displayed with a confirmation message.

  • Delete the review:
    1. Delete the review:Delete this Review.
    2. Select Yes, permanently delete this review on the confirmation screen.
    3. Select Yes in the Warning! message.

    Result: Your My Reviews screen is displayed showing None.

 

 

Tags

Tags are keywords that help you classify or describe an item. Tags may help you find similar items or they may just help you organize items in a way that makes sense to you. A phrase may be saved as a Tag as long as none of the words are separated by a comma (',').

Keep in mind that all tags are public and are visible to anyone who displays the Tags tab.

Create tag(s)

Before you begin: You must be logged into your account to create tags. If you are not logged in, you can access the Sign In screen by selecting the Login to WorldCat link on the Tags tab.

To create your own tags:

1 Log in to your account.

Enter your tags in the Add your own tags: box.

Select the Save Tags button.

Result: The Tags tab is redisplayed showing your tags, and a confirmation message appears.

 

Edit tag(s)

Your complete list of tags is displayed on your My Profile page. You can edit an existing tag to add words or correct spelling.

Before you begin:

  1. You must be logged into your account to access your My Profile page.
  2. The content of the text box completely replaces the existing tag. You cannot just add words to an existing tag; you must re-enter the tag text in its entirety.

    Example: To change the existing tag Ron to Ron Weasley:

    • Enter this:

    • Not this:  

To edit a tag:

1 Access your user profile by selecting the My WorldCat link at the bottom of the screen..
2 On the My Profile screen, scroll down until your Tags: list is visible.

Select the Edit link for the tag you want to edit.

Result: The Edit this tag... box appears immediately below the tag.

4 Enter the revised text for the tag.

Select the Save Tags button.

Result: The Tags tab is redisplayed showing your tags, and a confirmation message appears.

 

Delete tag(s)

Before you begin: You must be logged into your account to access your My Profile page.

Step Action
1 Access your user profile by selecting the My WorldCat link at the bottom of the screen..
2 On the My Profile screen, scroll down until your Tags: list is visible.

Select the Delete link for the tag you want to delete..

Result: A warning message appears immediately below the tag.

Select Yes in the warning message.

Result: The Tags: list is redisplayed without the tag you just deleted.

 

Related Items

This tab appears only for the Books format. It displays linked titles of other books by the same author, general subject area, or genre. Each link may include a cover image.
