Local Holdings Introduction

Course description

This workshop presents a basic overview of the local holdings landscape, the reasons to add local holdings to OCLC's WorldCat database, and an overview of the methods with which to do it.  The presenter will also work with the trainees to help them begin the process of formulating their short- and long-term goals for local holdings in their library.

How electronic holdings records fit into the overall library landscape, both internally in your local system and externally with OCLC's WorldCat database, and how this better enables your patrons to discover and access materials in your library's collection.

  1. A global view of holdings and coordinating holdings in multiple environments
  2. A description of holdings in the WorldCat environment
  3. Methods of adding holdings to WorldCat
