Connexion 101 - Intro to Connexion Client

Course description

This live, in-person class is designed to teach newly assigned copy catalogers and technical services staff the basics of operating Connexion Client.  Upon the completion of this class, learners will be able to use Connexion to perform basic searching and copy cataloging functions that will facilitate the library’s holdings maintenance on the WorldCat database.

This face-to-face class includes supervised exercises to build and practice skills with the Client interface

  • Intro to Key Connexion Menus and Options
  • Viewing Multiple Records/Windows Simultaneously
  • Using Connexion’s Help/Documentation Resources

  • Numeric Searches (ISBN, LCCN, Publisher Numbers, etc.)
  • Keyword Searches
  • Qualifying Searches for More Precise Results
  • Key Record Elements for Determining an Item Match
  • Basic MARC record editing
  • Using MARC Field Help
  • Reformatting and Validating Records
  • Maintaining Institution Holdings Using Connexion
  • Setting Export Options
  • Exporting Records in MARC Format
