OCLC presented the fifth annual OCLC Digital Forum West on September 16–17, 2009, at the Getty Research Institute at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, California. This national forum focused on Convergence: Where Metadata and Access Meet for Digital Discovery and Delivery.
The 2009 Forum featured experts from the museum, archival and library communities who discussed current projects and initiatives that explore the creation of metadata for digital discovery and delivery. Four of these distinguished presenters included:
- Anne J. Gilliland (Keynote speaker), Professor, Moving Image Archive Studies and Chair of the Department of Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles
- Maureen Whalen, Associate General Counsel for the J. Paul Getty Trust
- Dr. John Falk, Sea Grant Professor in Free-Choice Learning, Oregon State University
- Kristine Brancolini, Dean of University Libraries, Loyola Marymount University
The OCLC Digital Forum West was co-sponsored by the Getty Research Institute, Orbis Cascade Alliance, OCLC Digital Programs and OCLC Digital Collection Services.
The 2009 OCLC Digital Forum West was presented at the Getty Research Institute (GRI) in Los Angeles, California. Located at the picturesque Getty Center, the GRI maintains a research library, organizes exhibitions and other events, sponsors a residential scholars program, publishes books, and produces electronic databases.
The Getty Center is one of two locations of the J. Paul Getty Museum. The museum’s permanent collection includes 19th– and 20th–century American and European photographs, and pre-20th–century European paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture and decorative arts. Among the works on display is the painting Irises by Vincent van Gogh. The Center is also well known for its architecture, gardens, and outstanding views overlooking the city.

Los Angeles air and ground transportation
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is 12 miles from the Luxe Hotel. LAX provides information on many modes of ground transportation to the hotel. Taxi fare from LAX to the Luxe Hotel is approximately $50; transfer time is approximately 30-45 minutes.
