14 Processing a Lender Response (Borrower)
Chapter overview
This chapter describes the actions a Borrower may take on Lender responses to a WorldCat Resource Sharing initial request. See
Chapter 12, "Processing Unsubmitted Requests (Borrower)" for processing requests that have not yet been submitted to any Lenders.
14.1 Lender Responds Yes: Borrower Receives the Item
When the Lender responds it can supply an item, the initial request returns to you with a status of
Shipped.

Request aging
When the item itself arrives at your library, you as Borrower advise the Lender of the item's arrival by updating the request status to
Received. If you do not update the status to Received within 14 system days (loans) or 7 system days (copies), WCRS automatically sends you a
Received? (Special Message to Borrower) on behalf of the Lender.
Alerts
Alerts are notes containing information that needs your immediate attention. Take appropriate action when you receive an alert. The Lender may add an alert when responding that it can supply an item or that it can supply an item only if you agree to certain conditions. Requests that contain an alert appear in the Alert category as well as in the Shipped or Conditional category. The note appears in the ALERT field in General Record Information.
Next steps
You update the request to Received for both loans and copies (no Due Date) in order to acknowledge the item's arrival. In addition:
- You activate ILL Fee Management debits and credits.
- For copies (no Due Date), you automatically complete the transaction and archive the request to Closed Requests.

14.2 Lender Responds No: Borrower Takes No Action
When a Lender responds No to a request, no response is required from the Borrower. What happens next depends upon the position of the Lender in the lender string.
One of multiple lenders
When there are multiple Lenders in the lender string and any Lender except the last lender responds No:
- An entry is made in the Borrower's Request History area.

- The request is forwarded to the next Lender in the lender string with a status of
Pending (all Reasons for No except Not found as cited). Each Lender has 4 system days to respond.

An Unfilled request is archived to Closed Requests in 7 system days.
Last lender
When the last Lender in the string responds No, and no previous lenders have responded Future Date, the request is returned to the Borrower with a status of Unfilled. The Unfilled request is archived to Closed Requests in 7 System Days.

14.3 Lender Responds Conditional: Borrower Accepts/Declines
When the Lender responds that it can supply an item only if you agree to certain restrictions or conditions, the initial request returns to you with a status of
Conditional.
Note: Always check the Lending Notes: field for additional information.

Deletes any Lending Notes Generates an entry in the Request History area of the Display screen Changes the request status to
Pending Forwards the request to the next Lender |
| No additional Lenders in the lender string |
Changes the request status to
Unfilled After 14 additional system days, archives the request to Closed Requests with a status of Unfilled |
