On page 624 of Abridged Edition 14, the third note for 636 Animal husbandry reads: "Class farms and ranches for, young of specific kinds of animals in 636.1-636.9" What does this note mean?

The note you refer to gives another example (see Brevity in Dewey Notes <http://www.oclc.org/dewey/updates/tips/classification/tip6.htm>) of Dewey editors following current Dewey editorial rules.  The phrase "farms and ranches for, young of specific kinds of animals" is Dewey shorthand for "farms for specific kinds of animals, ranches for specific kinds of animals, young of specific kinds of animals."

Notice that the first note at 636 Animal husbandry in Abridged Edition 14 contains an including note: "Including farms, ranches, young of animals." The third note clarifies that farms and ranches for specific animals and the young of specific animals are classed in subdivisions of 636. For example, in Abridged Edition 14, sheep farms are located at 636.3 and puppies are located at 636.7.
