Editing definitionsTier 1: Automated editingEditing that can be performed automatically: examples include adding barcode, location, copy and volume to create item-level information; adding call number workmarks to all titles in an order; entry of correct codes and input stamps; adding library-supplied constant date to all titles in an order; notification of titles already held. Tier 2: Macro-driven editingEverything listed in Automated Local Editing, plus tasks requiring the use of macros. Tier 3: Manual editingEverything listed in Automated Local Editing and Macro-Driven Local Editing, plus library-specific tasks requiring extensive cataloger review: examples include entry of detailed holdings information that cannot be automated or generated via macros; applying local exceptions to LC or DDC classification; applying local preferences to any call number (for example, cuttering, workmarks, etc.); entry of item-specific local notes that cannot be automated or generated via macros; adding non-standard fields or using non-standard language in any field; applying local exceptions to LCSH; assigning Bilindex or GSAFD Genre subject headings; adding subject terminology from a library-supplied thesaurus; record review; other manual editing.
