OCLC announced as the main sponsor of JISC Conference 2009
Birmingham, UK, 2 February 2009 – JISC is today pleased to announce that OCLC, the world’s largest service and research organisation dedicated to serving libraries, archives and museums, will be the main sponsor of its 6th annual conference.
The conference, taking place in Edinburgh on 23 and 24 March, 2009 will showcase how JISC is enabling further and higher education institutions to enhance the students’ learning experience, provide greater access to digitalised resources and gain from the expertise of the organisation’s services.
It will also feature discussions, debate and, most of all, hands-on experience of technology which is bringing to life research, teaching and learning within higher education.
Malcolm Read Executive Secretary at JISC said: “We have a long and successful history of supporting the library community. We are looking forward to working with OCLC who will bring a wealth of expertise across library services and research to share with delegates at the conference.”
Both organisations are engaged in national and global collaborative efforts to ensure education and research communities can meet their agendas and shape future service delivery.
Lorcan Dempsey, Chief Strategist and Vice President, OCLC Research said: “We are delighted to sponsor the JISC Conference again this year. OCLC’s mission is very much aligned with JISC objectives: we want to make libraries and higher education institutions more effective through innovation and shared services. Our work agenda in support of the Research Libraries Group partnership has many concrete points of contact with JISC initiatives, for which this conference is a wonderful showcase.”
Delegates who attend this year will benefit from tailored 1:1 networking opportunities while those not able to attend in person will be able to be there virtually – through blogging, webinars, podcasts and online conferencing.
