OCLC launches metadata services for publishers
OCLC is pleased to offer a new service that leverages the richness of WorldCat, the worlds largest bibliographic database, to enrich publisher supply chain metadata. The service accepts title metadata in ONIX format, enriches it by mining WorldCat and outputs an enriched ONIX file ready for use in supply chain systems and communications. This reduces in-house intellectual work and manipulation of title metadata, and improves discoverability.
Benefits of the service include:
- Application of subject analysis and classification
- Disambiguation and consistency in author names
- Application of best practices for bibliographic description
- Reduction of redundant or extra work for library and retail market metadata needs
- Improved internal business analysis and intelligence through more consistent and granular metadata
- More efficient creation and distribution of metadata to supply chain partners.
The enhanced metadata also becomes immediately available in WorldCat for library use in selection, acquisition and technical services workflows, and visible to end users via WorldCat.org.
