Link to library catalogs WorldShare ILL for item availability information
Tip of the Week August 8, 2013
WorldShare Interlibrary Loan lets you link to your OPAC and catalogs of potential lenders to confirm whether the item you need is available for loan. These links are accessible through WorldShare ILL for libraries that have entered this information in the WorldCat Registry.
When viewing holdings information in the process of creating an ILL request, you can click on a library’s name to go to that library’s catalog. Catalog links are available for those libraries that have entered this information in the WorldCat Registry. By confirming availability before submitting a request, you can minimize turnaround time for your requests.
WorldShare ILL will soon let you link from new ILL requests to your own catalog to quickly determine whether the requested item is in your library and available for loan. Checking your catalog for availability information from the ILL request eliminates the need to leave the ILL service and search your catalog for this information. This will help you respond more quickly to requests.
To set up links to YOUR library’s catalog:
When you configure links to your library’s catalog in the WorldCat Registry, you will help borrowing libraries confirm whether a needed item is available in your collections before they initiate an ILL request and enable your staff to respond more quickly to requests for resources in your library’s collections. In the Registry, you may set up links based on OCLC numbers or other identifiers.
