RDA for Copy Catalogers (OHIONET)
This workshop will be a basic introduction to copy cataloging in RDA for monographs and serials.
Course Overview
This workshop will be a basic introduction to copy cataloging in RDA for monographs and serials. Since many libraries have already converted their cataloging to RDA, and the Library of Congress plans to fully convert by March 31, 2013, copy catalogers need to have a basic familiarity with the major differences between AACR2 and RDA. They must also be aware of local system issues RDA may have on their library’s catalog, and its impact on our users. Specifically we will be covering - RDA history and background--understanding the FRBR model - RDA vocabulary--and the differences from AACR2 - RDA core elements for monograph cataloging RDA core elements for serials cataloging - A review of new RDA fields in MARC and issues associated with these fields and with local systems - How to establish local copy cataloging procedures for RDA cataloging PLEASE NOTE: In order to meet anticipated demand, OHIONET has expanded the normal class size for this topic. As a result, registrants are strongly encouraged to bring their own laptops for this session.
