Original Cataloging of Sound Recordings Using RDA (MCLS)
There are currently no classes scheduled for this course.
This workshop teaches participants how to catalog sound recordings (CDs, MP3s and cassettes, both musical and nonmusical), using such tools as RDA and Library of Congress Subject Headings Manual. The class will address original cataloging in the MARC format. The instruction will cover issues like the chief source of information, physical description, main entry, and choice of additional access points. In addition, participants will learn the MARC fixed and variable fields for sound recordings, and will study the relationships among these fields. Several MARC record examples will be examined, and a number of hands-on exercises will be included. The booklet for this workshop contains RDA rules combined with MARC coding information. The online version of OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards will also be used.
This class will be online for 3 - 2 hour sessions over 3 consecutive days using our online workshop software. All registered attendees will receive additional login information a few days prior to the first class date.
This workshop has been approved for six (6) General Library Education Units (LEUs) for Indiana staff.
PLEASE NOTE: Basic navigation in the RDA Toolkit will NOT be covered. You will need to attend Original cataloging of monographs using RDA prior to attending this program.
