Do you use the Cutter Sanborn or the Cutter tables for your cutter numbers? Are you tired of looking them up in the printed tables? Then try the Dewey Cutter program, available for free download. This program is based on OCLC's Four-Figure Cutter tables, and is a stand-alone application. It allows you to enter text, get the Cutter number, and then paste it back.

The OCLC Four–Figure Cutter tables (Cutter and Cutter Sanborn) are compatible with the earlier tables and reduce the need to extrapolate numbers. New features in this version of the software include automatic pasting of text to be cuttered, copying of the resulting cutter, and a new help topic. The program and instructions are available from the Dewey Cutter Program page.

The same cuttering ability is already present in the latest versions of OCLC CatME, OCLC CJK software, and as a macro that can be downloaded for use with Passport.
