Checklist

Use the following checklist to guide your implementation of OCLC ILL Direct Request.

1 Do you have an ILL system or Web interface that supports the ISO requirements of ILL Direct Request and through which your library patrons can submit requests? Go to 2 Purchase a compliant system or Web interface.
For more information, see chapter 8, ISO-10161 Overview.
2 Contact your vendor or systems office. Has your system or Web interface been tested with OCLC ILL Direct Request? Go to 3 Send a copy of the OCLC ILL Direct Request Planning Guide to your vendor or systems office and ask them to contact OCLC to arrange a test.
3 Do you have an OCLC Interlibrary Loan service authorization and password? Go to 4 Contact your OCLC-affiliated regional network or service center, your international distributor, or OCLC.
4 Have you signed up for ILL Direct Request training? Go to 5 Contact your OCLC-affiliated regional network or service center, your international distributor, or OCLC to schedule training.
5 Have you decided which ILL Direct Request processing option to use?

6 Have you created constant data records and Custom Holdings groups/paths? Go to 7 See About This Guide for references to supporting OCLC documentation you may need to review.
7 If you will use the Direct-to-Profile processing option, have you determined which groups of ILL requests will be eligible for unmediated processing through ILL Direct Request? Go to 8 Read chapter 3, Direct-to-Profile Processing Option and study the profile worksheet examples. Then, complete worksheets for groups of requests relevant to your workflow.
8 Have you created online Direct Request profiles? Go to 9 Go to WorldShare Interlibrary Loan, Direct Request Profiles section of the OCLC Service Configuration User Guide for instructions on how to create profiles.
9 Have you sent a test record to OCLC You're ready! See chapter 8, ISO-10161 Overview for details about sending test records to OCLC.

Element Note
Profile name Up to 8 alphanumeric characters. Not case-sensitive.
Description Description of the profile record (e.g., Faculty request for copies)
Maximum 140 characters.
Request source(s) Must be a valid value from :Source: in ILL requests. Leave blank if "Source: is not relevant.
Up to 8 alphanumeric characters. Not case-sensitive.
Type of request May be loan, copy, both, neither. OCLC recommends you choose either loan or copy.
Patron status(es) No limit on number of statuses.
Maximum 65 characters for each status. Not case-sensitive.
Patron department(s) No limit on number of departments.
Maximum 67 characters for each department. Not case-sensitive.
Amount patron pays Range is 0.00 to 1000.00 (US dollars and cents). A value of 0 means the patron is not willing to pay anything.
Need Before date Use whole numbers. Range is 0 to 1000.
Do not include a plus (+) sign.
Bibliographic formats Do not specify a bibliographic format if it does not apply to the group of requests you are profiling (e.g., if the profile applies to all formats).
Age of material Use whole numbers. Range is 0 to 1000.
Language When creating the online profile, you select 1 or more languages from a list. In the worksheet, specify applicable languages.
Do not specify a language if it does not apply to the group of requests you are profiling (that is, if the profile applies to all languages).

 

Route to Review if potential duplicate? Note yes if you want a request sent to the Review File if it is a potential duplicate.
Note no if you want a request forwarded to the first potential lender even if it is a potential duplicate.
Route to Review if held by institution? Note yes if you want requests to be sent to your Review File when your institution holds the requested item.
Note no if the request can be processed whether or not your institution holds the requested item.
Route to Review if held by [Holdings Group}? Select 1 Custom Holdings Group name from the list provided. The list includes all current Holdings Groups defined by your institution in OCLC Interlibrary Loan.
Minimum number of lenders Specify 1,2,3,4, or 5.

Default = 1 (A lender string must have at least 1 lender.)
Constant Data name Indicate 1 Constant Data record.
Custom Holdings Path name Indicate 1 Path name.
Produce the request If you want ILL Direct Request to automatically produce requests that match this profile, note yes.
If you want ILL Direct Request to put all matching requests in your Review File, note no.
