All sections describe changes that may affect local system processing of OCLC-MARC records.

Online Installation

May 2010, unless otherwise noted. Installations of this OCLC-MARC Update may occur in stages, which OCLC will announce via logon Messages of the Day, Connexion News, and the OCLC-CAT listserv.

OCLC strongly recommends that users not begin to use new capabilities, new fields and subfields, new indicators, new practices, and new codes until OCLC announces that they may be used.

New searching and indexing capabilities: All new searching and indexing capabilities can be used in both Connexion interfaces (client and browser) when announced by OCLC in May 2010. In Connexion client, new indexes and languages will not appear in dropdown lists, but can be input manually via the command line (Client dropdown lists will be updated with new indexes in a future version of the client).

New fields, subfields, and indicators: These may be used in both Connexion interfaces when announced by OCLC in May 2010.

New codes: These may be used in both Connexion interfaces when announced by OCLC in May 2010. However, in both interfaces, new fixed field codes will appear in dropdown lists. When the online changes are installed, Connexion client users will be prompted to download new validation tables that will include the new codes in fixed field drop-down lists.

Form of Item fixed field and Computer File format

OCLC will add the Form of Item fixed field (008/23 & 006/06) with codes o, q, and to the Computer File format in a future version of the Connexion client.

Database scans

OCLC will convert data to its appropriate new format to the extent that is possible.

Subfield ‡a: New codes defined	fl	Flamenco Generic term which refers to all the Flamenco styles, or palos, and to other forms of song and dance coming from the folkloric tradition of Spanish gypsies.
	tl	Teatro lirico Used for a large number of more specific terms which describe Spanish and Spanish American theatre music: tonadilla escénica, fiestas de música, sainetes líricos, entremeses cómico-lírico, etc.
	vi	Villancicos Characteristic form of Spanish polyphony, religious or secular, from the 16th to 18th centuries. Religious villancicos were usually sung in important ceremonies (including Christmas, when these songs were sometimes called pastoradas).
	za	Zarzuelas Term applicable to all musical plays taking that name, from the fiestas de zarzuela of the 17th/18th-centuries to the so-called zarzuela moderna ("modern zarzuela") from the mid 19th to the mid 20th-century.

FMus Format of Music (SCO 008/20 & 006/03)

New codes	h	Chorus score. A score of a work for chorus showing only the parts for chorus, at least in those portions of the work in which the chorus sings, with the instrumental accompaniment either arranged for one or two keyboard instruments or omitted. Formerly, choral scores were coded d (Voice score).
	i	Condensed score. A score in which the number of staves is reduced to two or a few, generally organized by instrumental sections, and often with cues for individual parts. Used for: Reduced score, Short score.
	j	Performer-conductor part. Score reduced to a single instrument for which the score was written or for the conductor.
Changed code definition	d	Voice score. Solo voice parts for which the accompaniment has been omitted. Vocal works originally unaccompanied are assigned other codes as appropriate. Note: Codes c and d are assigned to solo voice scores on the basis of the absence of or type of accompaniment. Choral scores are assigned code h (Chorus score).

Form Form of Item (BKS, CNR, MIX, REC, SCO, 008/23 & 006/06; MAP, VIS, 008/29 & 006/12)

New codes	o	Online. The resource is accessed by means of hardware and software connections to a communications network. If a distinction between types of electronic resources is not necessary, code s can be used as a generic code for any form of electronic resource.
	q	Direct electronic. Storage on a directly accessible tangible recording medium, e.g. disc, tape, playaway device, flashdrive, portable hard drive, etc. If a distinction between types of electronic resources is not necessary, code s can be used as a generic code for any form of electronic resource.

4 Indexing Changes

Availability of indexing changes in Connexion interfaces

All new searching and indexing capabilities can be used in both Connexion interfaces (client and browser) when announced by OCLC in May 2010. In Connexion client, new indexes will not appear in dropdown lists, but can be input manually via the command line (Client dropdown lists will be updated with new indexes in a future version of the client).

5 MARC Code List Changes

Library of Congress's reorganization of MARC Code Lists

In April 2010, the Library of Congress reorganized its MARC Code Lists for Relators, Sources, Description Conventions into a set of new lists that are more specific, more consistent, and more comprehensive. They may all be accessed under the "MARC Code Lists" heading on the MARC Standards page ( http://www.loc.gov/marc/). In brief, lists have been brought together under two general headings:

All new language terms are indexed in the Language (la) index.

Connexion

There may be discrepancies between the Connexion client and browser in Language bibliographic search menus.

The drop-down list in the Lang fixed field will be updated when the online changes are installed. Connexion client users will be prompted to download new validation tables that will add new codes to and delete obsolete codes from the drop-down list for the fixed field.
For searching, new and changed language names will not appear in the Search WorldCat dropdown list until a future version of the client is released. Until then, they can be input manually via the command line.
