Recently, Serials Solutions instructed their subscribing libraries that also have FirstSearch to set up a link to their new Journal Linker product as if it were their library catalog, under Linking=>Web Library Catalogs=>ISSN Search Results URL in the FirstSearch administrative module.

However, in the FirstSearch administrative module, there is only one input box for a link based on ISSN on the Linking=>Web Library Catalogs screen. If libraries want to set up Journal Linker from this box, they cannot use it to set up an ISSN-based link to their OPAC.

As an alternative, we suggest that libraries that wish to set up a link to Journal Linker should use the Your Library Settings option under the Interface Display tab. This link will appear in the blue vertical left navigation bar on the user interface. Though it will not link directly to a specific journal, it will allow a library to have both Journal Linker and web-based OPAC access directly to an ISSN at the same time.

OCLC has discussed this with Serials Solutions and they have agreed to add this alternative to their documentation.
