A new “virtual catalogs” feature in the Interface Display section of the FirstSearch administrative module allows libraries to set up persistent cross-database searching.

FirstSearch administrators can combine three FirstSearch databases and 15 Z39.50 library catalogs so that they appear as one database in the interface. Once a virtual catalog is set up in this way, the FirstSearch administrator can give it a name. For example, a library might combine WorldCat, and Book Review Digest and call the combined database Books.
