SciFinder is a position-dependent directive that interacts with Group directives. Typical placement is toward the top of config.txt.
SciFinder EZproxyPort SciFinderHost:SciFinderPort
where EZproxyPort is the local port upon which EZproxy should listen for requests and SciFinderHost:SciFinderPort is the hostname and port to which EZproxy should connect for proxying. For example, you might use:
SciFinder 2100 126.96.36.199:210
In this example, EZproxy will listen on port 2100 for requests and will connect the user through to 188.8.131.52:210 which is the standard IP address and port for SciFinder Scholar. When picking the local EZproxy port, you will need to insure that TCP access to this port is allowed through any firewall entering your institution and any firewall running on the EZproxy server. You will also need to insure that EZproxy is allowed to make an outgoing TCP connection to the SciFinder IP address and port.
The EZproxyPort must be uniquely assigned for SciFinder and must not duplicate any existing port used with FirstPort, LoginPort, or LoginPortSSL.
Note: The information on this page provides instructions for configuring EZproxy to allow remote access for the CAS SciFinder Scholar client program. However, the instructions do not include details for configuring the SciFinder Scholar client software itself. Once the EZproxy configuration has been completed according to the instructions below, contact CAS support for client-side support and troubleshooting.

The Site Preferencesa Editor (SPEdit) is a special utility provided with the SciFinder Scholar client program to create and manage the configuration file site.prf. To allow remote access, your SciFinder Scholar administrator will need to use SPEdit to create custom site.prf files. These files need to be distributed to your remote users..
In SPEdit, your SciFinderScholar administrator does not need to make any changes to the Primary, Backup or Scholar Login information. The Use Z39.50 SOCKS Firewall must be checked and the values for the Z39.50 Socks Firewall should be set to the name of your EZproxy server, or for the Mac OS X 1.0 client to the IP address of your EZproxy server; and the port should be the port you specified in the EZproxyPort portion of the SciFinder directive. No changes are required in the Scholar Login information.
The simplest way to distribute the custom site.prf files is to edit config.txt to add:
With this option in place, start at the directory where EZproxy is installed and go into the docs directory and then the loggedin directory. Within the loggedin directory, create a new directory named default, and within the default directory, create two new directories named win and mac. In the win and mac directories, place corresponding copies of site prf for these operating systems.
Remote clients will need to install the SciFinder Scholar program. If you use the recommendation in the preceding section to place these site.prf files on your EZproxy server, then remote users should be directed to download the correct site.prf file from URLs such as:
replacing ezproxy.yourlib.org:2048 with your own server and port. Your users should be directed to save these files to C:\SFSCHLR for Windows or to the corresponding Mac directory.
Once the client is configured, remote users will need to start by accessing:
