For WorldCat Local libraries moving to WorldCat Discovery
Good news…The majority of the settings you’ve been using with WorldCat Local transfer seamlessly to WorldCat Discovery. When you are ready to go live using WorldCat Discovery please make sure you update the following settings in OCLC Service Configuration. Note: These changes will impact your WorldCat Local experience.
Sign in to OCLC Service Configuration and navigate to:
My WorldCat.org > User Interface Options
Update your user interface by adding your library's logo. Add links to your library contact information page, or links to other pages to which your patrons need access.
- Customize the banner (optional) section:
- Pick a background color for your banner
- Add your logo by adding the path to where your library stores it. You must use a secure URL (starts with https://)
- Custom Link(s) section:
- Add links if desired. For example, you can add links to your library contact information, your A to Z list of e-journal titles, chat services, such as QuestionPoint, or to a sign in screen for your users for remote access

My WorldCat.org > OPAC Statuses, Locations and Circulation Policies
Update Item Availability on Search Results (AOB) to display item availability on search results in WorldCat Discovery. Note that this setting also controls the appearance of Access Online buttons on search results. Scroll down to the section, 'Item Availability on Search Results (AOB)', and use the setting on the left side of this section, 'In Discovery, display Item Availability on the Search Results.' We recommend selecting 'Automatically (10 results at a time).'
My WorldCat.org > ILS Support and Maintenance
We recommend adding a shared email address in the User Support Section so that users can provide feedback directly to your institution.
My WorldCat.org > Google Analytics
Use the instructions provided in OCLC Service Configuration to create a new Google Analytics Tracker ID for WorldCat Discovery and add the ID in this section. Related documentation: Google Analytics (WorldCat Discovery only)
My WorldCat.org > Relevancy and Scoping
Search results will display based on how you configure these settings.
Default Scoping Level:
- Libraries Worldwide results will include both items held by your institution and items held by libraries worldwide
- Your Library results are limited to items held by your institution
Note: If you are searching remote databases, sort by Libraries Worldwide to display all results.
Default sort on search results:
- Library and Relevance results for your institution are displayed first, followed by libraries worldwide
- Relevance Only results are sorted by relevancy only, regardless of your potential holdings in WorldCat

Review your library's full text and open access links settings. Related documentation: Full Text and Open Access Links
Metasearch Content > Licensed Content and Databases
Review your library's data selections and database groups configuration. These are the databases users will search within WorldCat Discovery. Tutorial: Configure Licensed Content and Databases
IP Addresses > Manage IP Addresses
Review the address(s) to ensure that they are correct. For each address or address range, make sure that:
- your institution's FirstSearch authorization, OCLC symbol, and other information is correct
- “WorldCat Discovery” is selected as a product
WorldCat Registry > Name and Location
To modify the display of your institution's location, drag the marker to the location, or click Update Registry to use suggested values. Please note that your institution's address should display on the map or your holdings might not be represented correctly.
WorldCat Registry > Online Catalog
Review your library's online catalog links and update them if they currently direct to WorldCat Local. Related documentation: WorldCat Discovery: Linking from search results to your OPAC.

Before you go live...
My WorldCat.org > User Interface Options
In the ‘WorldCat Discovery Services Redirect’ section, redirect www.worldcat.org users to the WorldCat Discovery site*. Also, select 'Redirect WorldCat Local permanent/bookmarked links to WorldCat Discovery.'
In the ‘Custom Links’ section, remove 'My Library Account' (custom link 4) which is not needed for WorldCat Discovery*. Click Save at the bottom of the page.
Search box and use parameters
If you are using search boxes and use parameters on your library's website that direct to WorldShare Local, redirect them to the WorldCat Discovery site*.

Promote WorldCat Discovery
Update links on your library’s website and promote WorldCat Discovery in your community.
