Exporting to OCLC SiteSearch

When you choose to export metadata using the OCLC SiteSearch option, you export collection metadata to an appropriate format for use in an OCLC SiteSearch database. A SiteSearch database comprises five files that form a searchable database.

You have two options for exporting metadata to OCLC SiteSearch. Both allow you to use an SGML file and a DTD file to create a SiteSearch database. SGML is a generic markup language for representing documents. A DTD is a text file used to map fields.

Use the SGML and the DTD files with the SiteSearch Database Operations Tool (SSDOT) to create a SiteSearch database. Consult the OCLC documentation for details on loading SGML records using SSDOT.

The two options for exporting metadata to OCLC SiteSearch are:

Dublin Core Format. Produces the SGML and DTD files that can be used to load a defined Dublin Core database. There are no options to choose.

Custom Format. Assumes you already have a DTD file. You define tags used in the exported SGML file, which can then be used with the DTD file to load a custom SiteSearch database.

For more information about the exported fields for each option, see Choosing a Metadata Export Mode.
