URL Rewrite rules for Windows installations

Last review: April 11, 2013

Description: CONTENTdm version 6 Windows installations require IIS URL Rewrite 2.0. If you customize CONTENTdm, you may need to modify one of the rewrite rules.

Resolution
Three rewrite rules are used.

1. The "Standalone Resource Passthrough" rule allows specific file types to be accessed directly, via a URL that follows the structure of the filesystem on the server. This is necessary for things like JavaScript, CSS, and standalone images used in customizations. Your customizations may require you to add new file types to this rule.

2. The "Controller Redirects" rule allows leveraging the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture of the Zend Framework.

3. The "Primary Index" rule facilitates parameter passing to CONTENTdm and allows for a more RESTful URL.
