Definitions of collection types and services

If you know your provider, simply find your provider on the Get WorldCat records, holdings, and full-text links for content from your providers page and follow the instructions. That list of providers includes the following collection types:

Automatically loaded as a knowledge base collection within WorldShare Collection Manager*

Some providers offer direct feeds to your library's knowledge base to automatically add your collection(s) and to maintain library-specific title selections on an ongoing basis. You can expose collection data and links to other applications and automatically receive updated records as global data is refreshed. See a sub-list of providers that offer automatic collection loading and maintenance.

Knowledge base collection within WorldShare Collection Manager*

A knowledge base collection combines data about a library's e-resource collection with linking features. Libraries add a knowledge base collection in Collection Manager to reflect their subscription. You can either select all of the titles from the global knowledge base collection or select a subset of titles to match your subscription. You can expose collection data and links to other applications and automatically receive updated records as global data is refreshed. See the complete list of collections in the knowledge base (.xlsx).

Cataloging partner collection through WorldShare Collection Manager*

Cataloging partner collections are used by libraries in agreement with material provider(s) and OCLC to set holdings and to deliver records and spine labels for materials ordered from providers. Your provider will send OCLC your electronic order information on your behalf. Once you create a collection in Collection Manager, Collection Manager delivers records that already exist in WorldCat. Collection Manager applies your record and label customizations, limits URLs in the 856 of the master record to one or more domains, and delivers a one-time file of records. See a sub-list of providers that send OCLC your electronic order information.

Records through Contract Cataloging

Contract Cataloging and your provider offer records for your purchased content. Use the request form listed for your provider to request records and record customization. Record output is not included in your cataloging subscription; additional fees will apply. See a sub-list of providers that offer records through Contract Cataloging.

*Collection Manager offers emailed record reports and for libraries with a Cataloging Subscription, holdings reports and the option to get updated records for your holdings in WorldCat when the master record in is enhanced. Find the WorldCat Update settings in Collection Manager by navigating to Settings > MARC Records > WorldCat Updates.
