Technical Bulletin 252 OCLC-MARC Format Update 2006

Abstract

This technical bulletin describes a variety of changes to OCLC bibliographic and authority fields, character set changes, MARC code list changes, and changes to the 006 template and fixed field displays. It also includes a summary of how these changes are implemented in the Connexion interfaces.

5 Character Set Changes The sharp character can be used when referring to Microsoft's C# programming language. A note forbidding this practice was removed.

8 Summary of Connexion Changes
 Alif changes:
  • Records containing the Alif fail offline validation. The workaround is to use online validation.
  • Connexion client users need to download a patch so the correct MARC-8 value for Alif will be exported.
