Log File Analysis
Every time a remote user accesses a web page through EZproxy, EZproxy records an entry in the
file ezproxy.log. For example, if a user accesses http://www.somedb.com/index.html, the log entry might look like
this:
132.174.1.1 - - [14/Mar/2008:09:39:18 -0700] "GET http://www.somedb.com:80/index.html HTTP/1.0" 200 1234
The default information recorded is in standard web server log file format. The exact information recorded can be
customized to meet your particular needs. For more detail on the information recorded in this file, please see
LogFormat .
Although EZproxy records usage information into ezproxy.log, it does not provide any way to analyze this
information. The merits of various web file analysis programs along with strategies for analyzing ezproxy.log
is a frequent topic of discussion on the EZproxy e-mail list. The archives of this list are available at
ls.suny.edu/read/?forum=ezproxy .
The keyword "analysis" is a good search term to locate messages on this topic.
OCLC does not endorse any particular web server log file analysis program. The
following links to such programs are provided based on discussion on the EZproxy e-mail list.
If you would like to recommend that a program be added to this list, please send an e-mail message to
ezproxy@oclc.org.
