Daphne Kouretas, OCLC Member Services Consultant, and Bruce Crocco, Vice President, Library Services for the Americas, OCLC, welcomed more than 70 participants to OCLC’s headquarters in Dublin, OH, for Good Practices for Great Outcomes: Cataloging Efficiencies that Make a Difference on October 21, 2011. The event featured Ted Fons, Director, WorldCat Global Metadata Network, OCLC, who presented, “Our WorldCat: Working Harder, Working Better.” He was followed by David Whitehair, Senior Product Manager, OCLC, who discussed, “Tech Services Workflows: Trends and Good Practices.” This event also featured speakers from our member community, including Susan Banoun, Head, Electronic Resources Department, University of Cincinnati, Morag Boyd, Head of Special Collections Cataloging, The Ohio State University Libraries, and Pam Matthews, Acquisitions Manager, Cuyahoga County Public Library. Beverly Cain, Agency Director and State Librarian at the State Library of Ohio also provided an insightful presentation on current trends and the future direction of libraries to close this event.

Jim Galbraith, Associate Director for Collections and Scholarly Resources and Interim Library Director, DePaul University Libraries, Lori Murphy, Metadata and Digital Library Services Coordinator, DePaul University Libraries, and Eric Forte, OCLC Member Services Consultant kicked off this September 27 event by welcoming 142 participants. Ted Fons, Director, WorldCat Global Metadata Network, OCLC provided the opening presentation at this lively, interactive OCLC member event, generously hosted by the DePaul University Libraries. We also featured the following speakers from OCLC and our member community,  including Christopher Cronin, Director of Metadata & Cataloging Services, University of Chicago, Dennis Meissner, Head of Collections Management at the Minnesota Historical Society, and Mary Konkel, Head of Technical Services, College of DuPage.

Dana Rooks, Dean of University of Houston Libraries, welcomed more than 75 participants to this July 29 event. Generously hosted by the University of Houston Libraries, this event featured keynote speakers Stefanie Wittenbach, University Librarian, Texas A&M–San Antonio library and Glenn Patton, Director, WorldCat Quality Management, OCLC.

This event also featured speakers from our member community, including:

• Dean James, Associate Director, Collection Development, Texas Medical Center Library
• Amber Seely, Manager, Catalog and Metadata Services, Houston Public Library  
• Keith Chapman, Music Catalog Librarian, Fondren Library, Rice University.

Chris Martire, Director, Member Services, OCLC, welcomed 75 participants to a session during the ALA Annual conference. This meeting included a keynote speaker (below) and lively roundtable discussions.

Bradford Lee Eden, Associate University Librarian for Technical Services & Scholarly Communication, University of California, Santa Barbara, CA, provided an informative keynote presentation,“Transforming Collection Management and Technical Services Operations: the Next-Generation Technical Services (NGTS) Initiative of the University of California Libraries.” 

Dr. Sandra Yee, Dean, University Library System, Wayne State University welcomed 88 participants to this June 17 event, generously hosted by the Wayne State University Libraries. Roy Tennant of OCLC Research and Steven Bowers, Executive Director of the Detroit Area Library Network, delivered the keynote presentations at this event, and OCLC's Member Services Consultant, Carole Myles, discussed ways to increase efficiencies using OCLC services.

We also featured speakers from our member community, including:

• Jody Harnish from Ann Arbor District Library
• Beth Callahan from Wayne State University, who discussed workflow efficiencies and cataloging challenges.

Over the past eight months, OCLC Member Services staff have been traveling around the U.S. to hear how librarians have faced the challenge to streamline cataloging at a time of reduced budgets and staff. These discussions have provided a great opportunity for all to learn, debate, and exchange practical tips on how to become more efficient—from defining "good enough" cataloging to collaborating on improved workflows, to sharing the latest on RDA and WorldCat quality. In this webinar, two academic librarians shared their experiences of reviewing and revising tech services workflows, and cataloging e-books. We also discussed the key trends and strategies provided by the hundreds of library staff who have contributed to the Good Practices for Great Outcomes series so far, and ended with a discussion of where we go from here.

Randi Ashton-Pritting, Director of University Libraries at the University of Hartford welcomed 69 participants to this May 20 event. Kendall Wiggin, Connecticut State Librarian, and David Whitehair, Senior Product Manager at OCLC, provided keynote presentations at this event, generously hosted by the University of Hartford Libraries. We also featured speakers from our member community, including:

Joan Heath, Associate Vice President, Texas State University–San Marcos, welcomed more than 65 participants to this May 6 event, which was also generously hosted by Albert B. Alkek Library, Texas State University–San Marcos. Stefanie Wittenbach, University Librarian at the brand new Texas A&M–San Antonio library, delivered the keynote, followed by several OCLC and member representatives, including Glenn Patton, Director, WorldCat Quality Management, OCLC, Elaine Sanchez, Head Cataloging Librarian, and Paivi Rentz, Head Acquisitions Librarian, Texas State University–San Marcos, Richard Hasenyager, Director for Library Services, North East Independent School District, San Antonio, and Jee-Hyun Davis, Head Librarian, Cataloging & Metadata Services, University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Ellen Safley, Director of Libraries, University of Texas at Dallas kicked off this May 5 event by welcoming more than 60 participants. Stefanie Wittenbach, University Librarian at the brand new Texas A&M–San Antonio library, provided the opening keynote at this lively, interactive OCLC member event, generously hosted by the McDermott Library at the University of Texas at Dallas. We also featured the following speakers from OCLC and our member community, who discussed workflow efficiencies: Glenn Patton, Director, WorldCat Quality Management, OCLC, Debbie Montgomery, Head of Cataloging Team, University of Texas at Dallas, Jennifer Gordon, Head of Electronic Resources Team, University of Texas at Dallas, and Beth Walters, Head of Cataloging, Fort Worth Library. Shawne Miksa, University of North Texas College of Information provided the closing keynote on training the cataloger of the future.
