My current projects include FRBR, xISBN, DSpace, text retrieval on a Beowulf cluster and Gwen.

Gwen is an open-source query evaluation layer that sits between any z39.50 server and any database. The current distribution contains two database implementation layers: a single Pears database and a logically partitioned Pears database. At this time two servers have implementation layers that can use Gwen as a resource. Those servers are the default jzkit Z39.50 server and the OAICat server for the ALCME project.

Prior to coming to the OCLC Research, I worked as a developer in Reference Services on the EPIC and FirstSearch products. As a developer in OCLC Research, I lead the development of the Zbase search engine that currently sits under FirstSearch. I also serve as a consultant to the EWC (Extended WorldCat) project.

The FRBR project is investigating algorithms for grouping bibliographic works. The xISBN Web service converts a single ISBN into a list of ISBNs that belong to the same FRBR work set. The Web service is used as the basis for bookmarklets.

The Beowulf project is experimenting with text retrieval with parallel programming on inexpensive cluster hardware.

My DSpace involvement includes adding support for alternate metadata schemes and adding authority control.
