The Top 25 US Public Libraries' Collective Collection, as Represented in WorldCat

by: Brian Lavoie

This paper presents some characteristics of the collective collection of the top 25 US public libraries, ranked by collection size. The statistics reported here are based on data from a July 2011 copy of the WorldCat bibliographic database. The data reflects institutional collections as they are cataloged and represented in WorldCat. The accuracy of holdings data in WorldCat may be lessened by the presence of duplicate records, cataloging errors, and other sources of inconsistency.
