Roger's current work focuses on knowledge organization. In this area, he is mining OCLC's WorldCat database to discover relationships among various subject content descriptors such as classification numbers, controlled subject headings, and free text.

Additionally, he is exploring the aggregation of bibliographic data into larger "works" using principles based on FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records).

Roger's work provides the basis for a number of research prototype systems including FictionFinder, Classify, Kindred Works, and WorldCat Genres.

Roger holds a B.A. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley (1974), an M.S. in Computer Science from New Mexico State University (1979), and a Ph. D. from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst (1989).
