Jim Michalko

Vice President, OCLC Research Library Partnership

Jim Michalko

Jim is Vice President of the OCLC Research Library Partnership. Prior to joining OCLC in 2006, Jim was the CEO of the Research Libraries Group (RLG) for nearly 16 years. Before directing RLG, Jim held positions in private industry (medical technology, merger and acquisition analysis), the University of Chicago libraries and the University of Pennsylvania libraries.

Jim's mother worked as a librarian in his neighborhood's Carnegie Public Library in Cleveland, Ohio, where he grew up. His early career responsibilities had him spend considerable time in libraries doing desk research. "Fortunately," he says, "I was able to find a university where I could get graduate degrees in both library science and business."

Jim blogs with his colleagues at hangingtogether.org and annotates Above The Fold, a weekly, current awareness e-newsletter that brings together articles that relate to the current information context. He’s an avid skier, dedicated reader and a supporter of various homeless shelters and restorative justice groups on the San Francisco Peninsula.

Jim holds graduate degrees from the University of Chicago (MBA and MLS) and earned a bachelor of arts at Georgetown University.
