Following the launch of the OCLC WorldCat API in June this year, Andy Havens, Manager OCLC Communications, speaks with John Chapman, Product Manager and Steve Meyer, Technical Product Manager, who are two of the creators of the new WorldCat Metadata API.  The video explains what an API is and most importantly what libraries can do with it.

Andy explains that the API is a revolutionary step forward for libraries that use it, as it enables libraries to have both read and write access to their bibliographic data allowing them to create, read, update and delete. By using the API it allows individuals to upload their own metadata, for example a student is able to upload his/her dissertation metadata straight to the libraries catalogue meaning holdings are accurate and kept up to date.
