Bookmark Your Library (www.bookmarkyourlibrary.org.uk) a new website developed in collaboration with OCLC officially launched to the UK public on Tuesday 19th March. A dedicated media campaign including national and regional radio and press supported the launch reaching millions of people across the UK.
Over 12 months in development, the initiative seeks to boost visibility and usage of UK public library resources and services by moving them collectively online, and making them accessible via a single digital presence.
Bookmark Your Library is home to FABLibraries, the UK’s only public library national catalogue, which is based on the holdings of UnityUK subscribers. Users will also be able to use the site to access the Enquire digital reference service and chat online with a librarian to answer questions or support learning, at any time of the day or night.
Bookmark Your Library will help people to find out about local library events, become a member, and provide them with the information they need to develop skills and pursue interests through their library service. And, they will be able to do all of this for free.
In 48 hours of launch traffic to the site went from virtually zero to 1,300 visitors, with 1,100 of those being unique visitors. Many of those visiting the site in this time went on to find their local library’s location or looked up a book using the FAB service. The average dwell time on the site was four minutes, which compared to industry benchmarks is extremely high for this type of site.
