In January, members of staff travelled to Florence to hold a Regional Membership Meeting at the European University Institute. Anja Smit, Chair EMEA Regional Council led the meeting.
27 participants attended including representatives from the two largest Italian consortia—Trento who loaded their union catalogue into WorldCat last year and CIPE who are currently loading. With the majority of participants new to OCLC membership there was a lot of questions about OCLC and particularly the election process. It was apparent that there is a lot of interest in Italy, as for the first time there will be a candidate from Italy—Tommaso Giordano from the European University Institute.
Anja Smit gave a presentation on OCLC Governance and also talked about library cooperation in the Netherlands, raising the importance of why collaboration with OCLC is a key part of her library’s strategy. Chris Négrel talked about OCLC products and services and Janet Lees gave a presentation about making the most out of OCLC membership.
The meeting is part of the EMEARC Executive Committee’s Annual Plan and further meetings are planned in the UK, Central Europe and the Middle East before the end of the Financial Year.
