John Szabo
City Librarian, Los Angeles Public Library
John F. Szabo is Director of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System. He was previously director of the Clearwater Public Library System and served as President of the Florida Library Association. He has also served as director of the Palm Harbor Public Library in Palm Harbor, Florida, and the Robinson Public Library District in Robinson, Illinois. Mr. Szabo was also Head Librarian of the Residential College at the University of Michigan, where he received his master’s degree in information and library studies. His bachelor's degree is in telecommunications from the University of Alabama. He completed the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Mr. Szabo was a Group Study Exchange participant with Rotary International visiting libraries and archives in Sicily and the Aeolian Islands.
He is an alumnus of Leadership Pinellas, past president of the Tampa Bay Library Consortium Board of Directors, and a current member of the Executive Board of the Urban Libraries Council, the OCLC Global Council, the External Advisory Board for the University of Michigan’s School of Information, and the Board of Directors of LYRASIS, non-profit membership organization serving over 1700 libraries.
