Data-Mining for Management Intelligence & New Services

Quick facts

Total projects: 5

Problem statement: Analyze circulation, holdings, and other data to develop a rich view of collection composition, use, and overlap and which feeds into other collective collection activities. Address strategic questions such as "optimal overlap" issue.

Make data work harder by extending the work in the data-mining project area by undertaking several projects that utilize user- and library-generated data for the development of systems and services.

This will be accomplished by analyzing WorldCat holdings and circulation and interlibrary loan (ILL) loan data to identify unique holdings or last copies in WorldCat, to compare books held in WorldCat and books circulated within collections, and to develop WorldCat discovery services, such as a recommender service. Opportunistic studies of aggregate collections impacting a range of library decision-making needs.
