RLG Programs : About : Organization
OrganizationIn the early 1970s, three US universities and the New York Public Library created a consortium for research libraries, which incorporated in 1975 as The Research Libraries Group, Inc. (RLG). Over several decades, RLG grew to include an international array of virtually every type of cultural memory institution—universities, national libraries, archives, historical societies, museums—all with remarkable collections for research and learning. On July 1, 2006, RLG combined with OCLC, forming a distinct group within the OCLC Programs and Research division. We continue to attract cultural heritage institutions of all types as partners of RLG Programs. Former RLG services have been migrated to OCLC, a process that was completed in September 2007. See RLG-OCLC Transition for detailed information. The offices of RLG Programs are currently in San Mateo, California, approximately nine miles south of the San Francisco International Airport. In October 2007 the offices will move several miles north, to San Mateo. View an online map here here. The RLG Program Council and the RLG Committee of the OCLC Board of Trustees are responsible for oversight of RLG Programs' directions. RLG Programs has seventeen staff, including the vice president, RLG Programs, program officers, and administrative support staff.
