Overzicht

Entering and managing user data in different applications and IT systems is becoming increasingly complicated, while updating data demands more and more time and resources. Many institutions are turning to Identity Management systems as the solution. The OCLC IDM Connector links all these systems with your local library system, providing you with a key central system for integrated data management.

Each institution has many different functional levels with numerous applications and one thing in common: They all require authentication and authorization, provided by logins and passwords.

This frequently means that the same user information is managed redundantly in several different systems, to the disadvantage of the user. Users need different login data for different applications and computers and have to remember and record several passwords. Not to mention the time and resources required to manage and synchronize user logins across all the different systems.

An accurately synchronized Identity Management system can offer the perfect solution. It distributes user data to all applications and assigns authorizations and roles.

IDM Connector offers your library solution and your users all the advantages of a synchronized Identity Management system up to and including single sign-on functionality - users only need to enter their ID once for access to all your institution's applications and systems.

Consistent authentication

Consistent authentication with single sign-on not only eliminates the need to remember different passwords and IDs in various formats for the user. It also means a significant reduction in time and effort for your administrators. Access information is activated and deleted promptly - an important security factor.

Standards

Authentication for the various user systems and applications are saved in the IDM system metadirectory. The range of functions provided there allows you further options for managing user IDs.

Up-to-Date User Data

The OCLC IDM Connector supports the majority of available Identity Management Systems.  The LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) carries out the communication between your local library system and the metadirectory as the central directory service.

Other Advantages

  • Automated processes for user data management
  • Integration with your institution's existing IT structure and IDM system
  • Increased security--authorization and authentication data is saved in a single location
  • Cost reduction--there is no redundant data to be maintained

Increased Integration

A collective user data pool provides the ideal foundation for additional integration options within your organization, whether you want to optimize business processes to exchange user data, simplify implementation of new applications or link up services from different areas (e.g., eLearning with electronic sources of the library). And systems can also be integrated beyond those used in your organization. SISIS SunRise and LBS systems can be linked for joint use of your user data even without a central Identity Management system.

Technical Aspects

The OCLC IDM Connector can be deployed with Identity Management systems and Directory Services from SUN, Siemens, IBM, Novell and Microsoft. Contact us for detailed information on all supported systems.
