Irene M. Hoffman named Executive Director, OCLC CAPCON
DUBLIN, Ohio, USA, 26 May 2006—Irene M. Hoffman has been named Executive Director, OCLC CAPCON, a division of OCLC Online Computer Library Center.
Ms. Hoffman comes to OCLC CAPCON from Georgetown University Library, in Washington, D.C., where she was Associate University Librarian for Personnel Planning and Assessment since 2003. For the past eight months, she had interim responsibility for library technology and systems infrastructure, including oversight and management of library systems and technologies, classroom education technology services and Georgetown digital library initiatives.
Ms. Hoffman has enjoyed an extensive career in academic libraries, beginning at the University of California at Davis where she was a business reference librarian and bibliographer. From 1987 to 1994, Ms. Hoffman worked at OCLC Pacific (now OCLC Western) as Sales Manager and later, Director. Prior to her service at Georgetown, she was Librarian and Director of Library Advancement at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, where she created a comprehensive fund-raising program for the library.
Ms. Hoffman holds a Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine and Applied Arts from Northeastern Illinois University. She is a published author and speaker on such topics as careers for librarians, diversity in research libraries, successful fund-raising and library development. She is an active member of the American Library Association and the Association of College and Research Libraries, and is a founding member of ALADN (Academic Library Advancement and Development Network).
"I am very excited about the opportunity to work more closely with the member libraries, and work together with them to enhance and expand the services of OCLC CAPCON to meet their needs," said Ms. Hoffman.

Ms. De Rosa said that Ms. Hoffman will build on the training, support and other membership benefits of the OCLC CAPCON Service Center.
Ms. Hoffman's appointment is effective May 15, 2006.
