WorldCat Discovery adds EndNote export, e-books to full-text facet and Thai interface

New features in WorldCat Discovery Services provide additional support for searchers who are looking for citation assistance, full text materials and the Thai interface language.

New features added in May

New features include:

  • Export to EndNote
Now researchers can save results from WorldCat Discovery to EndNote, the industry standard software tool for publishing and managing bibliographies, citations and references. A “share” icon for each item in a given results set provides a citation export file, so that once researchers find something interesting through the library, they’ll always be able to find it again.

  • Full-text facet for e-books
The full-text option in the “Content” facet has been expanded to include e-books, in addition to articles and other materials. This will help searchers retrieve more full text content in search results. Now any library with holdings for e-books in WorldCat or the WorldCat knowledge base will also have e-books appear in results sets when the “full text” facet is checked.

  • Thai language interface
The addition of Thai brings the total number of interface languages to 15. WorldCat Discovery interface languages are Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Maori, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Swedish, Spanish and Thai.

Features coming soon: staff-specific features and additional ILL integration

Features coming soon include staff-specific functionality, such as the ability to see a MARC record view of items in search results. New staff features will also include the display of libraries who hold an item by OCLC symbol.  (The current end-user view displays holding libraries by proximity to the searcher’s IP range location.)

Enhancements to further integrate WorldCat Discovery and WorldShare Interlibrary Loan are also planned for the coming months, so that resource sharing librarians can use the staff view of WorldCat Discovery to connect directly to WorldShare ILL and/or ILLiad.

Start your transition to WorldCat Discovery

The WorldCat Discovery interface is available to all current FirstSearch, WorldCat Local and WorldShare Management Services subscribers as part of existing subscriptions. Libraries are encouraged to start their transition to WorldCat Discovery today.
