OCLC sponsors Code4Lib 2010

Code4Lib 2010 starts on Monday, February 22, 2010 in Asheville, North Carolina, USA, taking place at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel. The yearly conference attracts developers, coders, programmers and people interested in technology in the context of libraries.

OCLC continues its tradition of supporting the Code4Lib community in sponsoring Code4Lib2010 at the platinum level.

OCLC will also host a full day pre-conference session, the OCLC Web Services and Lightning Talk Demos, which will provide thorough coverage of a suite of library APIs and Web Services. Coverage will include the WorldCat Search API, the WorldCat Basic API, WorldCat Registry and the OpenURL Gateway, xISBN, xISSN, as well as the essentials about the underlying technologies (e.g., SRU, CQL, Atom, OpenSearch, etc.) so attendees can start creating mashups and apps of their own, immediately.

There will also be time for attendees to show off what they've done to mash up library data in the past—from any source—in a 5 -10 minute presentation to help inspire ideas.

Karen Coombs, product manager for the OCLC Developer Network, will also present a conference session on Tuesday, 23 Feb, titled "7 Ways to Enhance Library Interfaces with OCLC Web Services." Karen's session will show several simple ideas to improve users' interfaces through OCLC Web Services. Possibilities showcased will include adding tables of contents to journal information, providing peer-reviewed designations, linking to other holding libraries in the area, and giving author identity information.

Outcomes and photos from the pre-conference will be shared on the OCLC Developer Network.
