OCLC Global Council election results announced for EMEA Delegates

Leiden, the Netherlands, 25 February 2010—The results of the election for Delegates to represent OCLC EMEA at OCLC Global Council have been announced at the OCLC EMEA Regional Council Meeting which is taking place in Leiden, the Netherlands. 

The regional election, the first of its kind since the announcement in 2009 of OCLC’s new governance structure, resulted in the following candidates being elected to serve with immediate effect:

  • Henriette de Kok, Director, Bibliotheek Midden-brabant,
  • Simon Bains, Head of Digital Library, University of Edinburgh
  • Lluis Anglada I de Ferrer, Director, Consorci de Biblioteques Universite de Catalunya (CBUC)

These Delegates will attend the first ever OCLC Global Council Meeting in April 2010, along with the delegates that have transitioned from the previous OCLC Members Council. 

From July 2010, five further Delegates will assume their role:

  • Berndt Dugall, Director, University Library Johann Senckenberg  (and current Chair, EMEA Regional Council) 2nd term
  • Poul Erlandsen, Head of Section, The Royal Library/Copenhagen University Library and Information Service (member of the Executive Committee) 2nd term
  • Robin Green, Deputy Librarian, University of Warwick (member of the Executive Committee) 2nd term
  • Anja Smit, Library Director, Maastricht University
  • Rupert Schaab, Deputy Director, SUB Göttingen

Klaus Ceynowa, Deputy Director of Bavaria State Library and Graham Jefcoate, Director of University Library Radboud University Nijmegen will be standing down from Global Council from 1st July 2010.

There are 48 Member Delegates on Global Council each serving a three year term representing the Americas, Asia Pacific and EMEA. OCLC EMEA is entitled to send 10 Delegates to Global Council. Global Council assures that the voice of member libraries can be heard at the highest levels of OCLC by electing 8 of the OCLC Board of Trustees members.

OCLC has also offered positions of Alternate Delegate to Thorsten Meyer of German National Library of Economics, Robert Froud of Somerset County Council, Sandra Bracegirdle of John Rylands University Library, Alan Knox of University of Aberdeen and Saad Azzahri-Alghamdi of Ministry of Petroleum-Riyadh.
