Add title-level serial holdings to WorldCat at no cost

As a WorldCat Local subscriber, you want to ensure that your users can easily identify and access the valuable electronic serials holdings in which you have invested.

Using the OCLC eSerials Holdings service is an efficient way to get all of your title-level serials holdings into WorldCat at no cost and with very little effort, and will help guarantee their discovery by your users.

With the eSerials Holdings service you can also provide a link to your full-text resources when you register your OpenURL link resolver with OCLC. Authenticated users can then click on the link to your resolver to see where they have access to full text and then link to the appropriate e-resource.

The eSerials Holdings service offers several benefits to your library:

  • Your electronic serials collection is more visible and therefore more useful to users, who can identify and access your eSerials more easily
  • Your eSerials holdings are kept up-to-date in WorldCat in a cost-effective, simple and efficient way
  • Your library’s return on investment in its eSerials collection, serials management services and WorldCat increases significantly
  • You can better leverage the investment made in your library’s OpenURL resolver.

How does it work?

OCLC has partnered with EBSCO, Serials Solutions and TDNet to automate the process of setting and maintaining holdings for eSerials in WorldCat. In addition, WorldCat Link Manager subscribers receive integrated support and free participation in the eSerials Holdings service. If your current serials management provider is none of the sources mentioned above, you may also choose to contribute your holdings directly to OCLC or you can nominate your provider as a potential partner.

After you order the free eSerials Holdings service we will contact your serials management provider to begin the process of receiving your eSerials holdings data for ISSN-based resources.

If you choose to supply updates to OCLC directly, you will need to create a monthly file of updates that is in either ONIX SOH or Google Scholar output, and provide us with the path to the file. We will then automatically retrieve the output and update your eSerials holdings on a schedule you determine.
