OCLC gears up for busy month of events
OCLC regularly sponsor and participate in events across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. In 2008, OCLC was involved in approximately 70 industry events in the region and in 2009 it seems set to surpass that figure.
Participating in regional, national and international events supplies valuable insight to the organisation of prevailing domain issues. It also provides an important channel for OCLC to connect with memory institutions and discuss its own activities and research. In the UK this month, we are busying ourselves with a number of such conferences, workshops and webinars that may be of interest to you.
OCLC Technical Services Forum, 18 November, British Library, London
Firstly, we are delighted that at OCLC’s 2009 Technical Services Forum we will be joined by Karen Calhoun, OCLC, Vice President WorldCat and Metadata Services. Karen will be presenting the findings of OCLC Research “Online Catalogs: what users and librarians want”. As part of the event, Karen will address what constitutes quality in library online catalogues from both the end users' and the librarians' points of view.
The Forum will also include a “WorldCat Update” by Janet Lees, Community Liaison, a talk from Daniel van Spanje, Global Product Manager (EMEA), Metadata Services, entitled “Records Count: bibliographic records in a networked environment” and a discussion with members of the Record Use Policy Council on OCLC Data Sharing. There are still a few places left for this popular meeting, so if you would like to register to attend, please contact: zoe.hodd@oclc.org
